Mongolia Celebrates Lunar New Year

Today
marks the beginning of Lunar New Year celebrations in Mongolia. The eve
of the New Year is known as the "bituunii udur", or day of feasting; it
is considered important to enter the new year in good spirits, with a
full stomach and a happy household, as this will set the tone for the
year to come. Overnight prayer ceremonies will be held at all
monasteries to summon Lkham and to exorcise evil. The upcoming holiday
will be spent visiting relatives and elders, exchanging greetings and
wishing everyone good fortune and happiness for the Year of the Dog.
