Photographer Marco van Duyvendijk (1974, NL) spent a winter and a summer in Mongolia in order to capture daily life in this far-flung country. In this fascinating nation age-old nomadic traditions, Asian culture, Buddhist spirituality and the last traces of communism are mingling with the modern influences that have been making themselves felt since the quiet revolution of 1990. Van Duyvendijk’s book includes not only images of century-old rituals like falconry and the slaughtering of a horse in the steppes, but also of bored kids in an amusement arcade and hip youngsters sporting dreadlocks and piercings.
