Visitors to injured former
Prime Minister Ts. Elbegdorj, 44, reports his medical condition has
improved enough that he may be released from the hospital any moment now.
However, Elbegdorj may be flown
to a foreign hospital for further treatments.
Elbegdorj was critically injured
when his car crashed into a motorcycle on July 10. His driver was killed.
Reports indicate Elbegdorj was saved because of the seatbelt he was
wearing. The driver, who was thrown from the vehicle, was apparently
not wearing his seatbelt.
Following the accident,
Elbegdorj was kept for a short time in an induced coma as part of his treatment.
Recent visitors to Elbegdorj’s
hospital room report the former prime minister sitting up in a chair,
completely lucid and appearing physically strong.
Elbegdorj served two terms
as prime minister, three times was elected to parliament and served
as vice-chairman of the State Great Hural. Since 2006, he has been leader
of the Democratic Party and in the same year mentioned as a possible candidate for Secretary-General of the United Nations.
