The Mongolian Parliament voted
to accept the resignation of Prime Minister M. Enkhbold on Thursday,
with 47 members approving the resignation and five voting against.
The Parliament’s actions
follow the October ouster of Prime Minister Enkhbold as chairman of
the Mongolian People s
Revolutionary Party. Party
official Sanj Bayar was elected as the new chairman and is expected
to become the next prime minister.
During the Thursday session
of Parliament, Prime Minister Enkhbold spoke of his government’s accomplishments
including lowering taxes, assisting small and medium-sized businesses
and building roads.
Following the resignation of
the Prime Minister, all cabinet members are automatically considered
to have also resigned.
The current government will
serve as a caretaker government until a new Prime Minister and cabinet
has been selected.
