The Mongolian government is
considering a request to send the ninth contingent of troops to Iraq
in 2008.
U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia,
Mark C. Minton, made the request during a meeting Friday with Mongolian
President Nambaryn Enkhbayar.
During the meeting, Minton
was quoted as saying, "The president of the U.S., George W. Bush,
hoped the country's activities in Iraq could be more effectual."
President Enkhbayar told the
U.S. ambassador he would submit the request to Mongolia's National
Security Committee.
Mongolia has had troops in
Iraq since 2003. Primarily, Mongolian troops have been involved in reconstruction
and peacekeeping operations.
