Number of yaks going down in Mongolia

The number of yaks in Mongolia has been decreasing year by year. In
1999, more than 800 thousand yaks were populating eight aimags of
Mongolia. As of 2005, the number of yaks declined by 400 thousand.
Mongolia takes the second place by its yaks number in the world after
China, which has about 12 million yaks.Mongolia rates number two in the world for its number of yaks. Yaks provide Mongolian families with wool, milk, and meat
to survive the country's harsh winters.
A Yak Festival is celebrated
during August in the National Park of Horgo and the White Lake of Terkh
in Arkhangai province.
