Mongolian River Resources

The goal of the Mongolian River Resources website is to provide information on a wide spectrum of topics related to natural resource use and the environment in Mongolia. This includes issues within Mongolia, and relevant international information and experiences. The need for information pertinent to the environment, ecology, and resource use, available to a broad audience with diverse interests and needs, was identified during the initial year of The Asia Foundation’s Securing Our Future program.

Our small charity carries out vet aid projects in different areas of Mongolia. From Khuvsgul reports we are aware of herd watering problems there due to rivers and streams drying up. One of our UK charity contacts drew our attention to a technique being widely used in Africa known as sand dams, details found at http://www.excellentdevelopment.com/dams.php Maybe there are areas in Mongolia where this could be employed? You may already be aware of this means of water conservation, but I thought it worth bringing this relatively cheap but very effective method to your attention.
