Guards removing thousands of gazelles caught in wire border fence

Hundreds of gazelles were reported
dead this week after being snagged in barbed wire at the Mongolian border
as they sought to cross into Russia.

Experts believe some 100,000
gazelles are migrating from Mongolia to Russia in search of food and
water following the worst drought in 20 years in Mongolia.

Mongolia and Russia have begun
talks to take down the border fence in Daursky Nature Reserve to prevent
further deaths among gazelles.

In the mean time, bowls of
water have been put out for the gazelles by the Russian border guards
and guards from the Daursky Nature Reserve.

Some claims put the figure
caught in wire fencing as high as 20,000 gazelles, with most being freed
by guards.
