Mongolian vodka manufacturer seeks international market

Mongolia’s largest manufacturer
of alcoholic drinks, APU, announced it would seek to introduce its two
Mongolian vodkas to international markets.

A key provision to its plans
is to take advantage of its duty-free status to maintain a price advantage.

APU’s Soyombo is the leading
high-end vodka sold in Mongolia. It is priced duty-free at US$20. The
less expensive vodka bottled by APU is Bolor, available in Mongolia
since 1981.

Explaining APU's expansion
plan, Dambinyam Bolortsetgeg, head of export, told Drinks International,
"Our strategy is based on two main factors: the first being the
rapid sales growth of white spirits and vodka in the world with the
trendy culture to drink cocktails.

Company officials note that
APU bottled four million litres of vodka and 18 million litres of beer
last year.
