Land Rover donated to Mongolian Red Cross

Mongolia’s Red Cross will
receive a Land Rover as a gift from the British auto manufacturer, SOLIHULL.

The company has donated sixty
of their SUV’s to the International and British Red Cross in honor
of its 60th birthday.

The event was held at Buckingham
Palace where Prince Charles, President of the British Red Cross, accepted
the vehicles.

Especially useful in areas
not easily accessible, they can be outfitted for emergency evacuations,
ambulances, or as trucks to bring supplies into areas not easily accessible.

Sir Nicholas Young, chief executive
of the British Red Cross, said “Often, those who are most in need
are in the places which are hardest to reach; these vehicles will help
make sure our staff and volunteers can continue to reach the most vulnerable.”

Phil Popham, managing director
of Land Rover, said “Land Rovers have optimal capabilities for harsh
and remote terrain access and this donation will ensure that those who
are most in need are reached quickly and effectively.”

I would hope that the vehicle will be used \"in the field\" instead of driving around Ulaanbaatar with all of the other NGO and various vehicles one sees each day clogging the streets. It will be interesting to see if it is deployed or remains in town.

Guarentee it will be seen doing the rounds at SKY, black market, ferrying (drivers)children to school and carrying around visiting dignitaries. Anyone sees it doing the above take a picture and send it off to Land Rover!

Why do the English still stubbornly try to make a car-kinda-thing to copy/outdo the Land-Cruiser? Why don\'t they give up? Why not admit defeat? And go do something usefull?
