A review of statistics indicate
an increase in infant mortality in Mongolia during the first nine months
of 2008.
Health officials note that
13 infants died during that period, an increase of three times over
the past year. However, no explanation was given for the increase.
Within Gobi-Altai province,
930 infants were born, with four reported deaths, in 2008.
One case of infant mortality
was registered in Bayan-Uul, Bugat, Darvi, Khokhmorit, Tseel and Chandmani
soums in each, two cases each were reported in Erdene soum and four
cases were reported in Yosonbulag soum.
Further, six children between
ages one to five died in Altai, Biger, Jargalan, Shargalan, Sharga and
Yosonbulag soums.
