Mongolian officials have said they hope to see an agreement on mining the Gatsuurt site hammered out in Parliament between the government and Centerra Gold.
Canadian-based Centerra seeks to sign an investment agreement with the government before it begins developing Gatsuurt. The agreement would specify the percentage of revenues the government would receive from the mining operation.
Officials in both the Prime Minister’s office and the Ministry of Mines and Energy have said completing the agreement has become ‘a priority’ for the government.
Initial agreements were reached this past March between the government and Centerra. However, national elections and the creation of a new government have slowed the mining negotiations.
