British woman is first foreigner to receive Mongolian award

A woman helping to educate
homeless children is the first foreigner to be awarded a medal by the
Mongolian government.

Ruth Richardson, a 25-year-old
British citizen, established programs in Ulaanbaatar near markets where
homeless children work.

Richardson, from Ovington,
near Barnard Castle, came to Mongolia last year with Voluntary Service
Overseas.

The schools she helped open
are located next to markets where children are able to receive a basic
education while continuing to work.
