Mongolia will seek to increase
its manufacturing exports in 2009.
The government has designated
2009 as the Industrialization Support Year to diversify the country’s
exports from their traditional minerals to the manufacturing sector.
According to a UN survey, 85
percent of Mongolia's exports are raw materials.
Programs will seek to increase
the number of Mongolian companies in the processing industries, improve
the competitiveness of wool and cashmere manufacturing and build industrial
parks in rural areas.
Further, officials seek to
assist industry by improving the nation’s manufacturing infrastructure
and reducing expenses, developing state-of-the-art technologies, and
enhancing the competitiveness of both products and the work environment.
As part of this program, Vice
Premier M.Enkhbold and T.Badamjunai, Minister of Food, Agriculture and
Light Industry recently toured tanneries and shoes factories.
The ministers heard from company
officials who suggested that new policies focus on drafting a national
program on industrialization and laws on exchanges and commercial regulations,
reviewing the country’s tax policy, improving financial support for
small businesses and training vocational workers.
