Japan’s Marubeni to purchase Mongolian uranium rights

Media reports Tuesday said
that Japan’s Marubeni Corp. will enter into negotiations to acquire
stakes in Mongolian uranium mines. Additionally, plans call for Marubeni
beginning uranium production no later than 2012.

It is further reported that
Marubeni will seek interests in the Dornod, Gurvanbulag and Mardai mines
in northeastern Mongolia.

If successful, this acquisition
would make Marubeni the first Japanese company to own rights to Mongolian
uranium.

Uranium deposits in the mines
Marubeni is interested in total 62,000 tons, which equals seven years
of consumption in Japan.
