A coin from Mongolia has been
chosen as one of the ten best coins in the first round of Coin of the
Year balloting by an international panel of judges.
Chosen for the award is the
Mongolian silver 500-tugrik which shows a wolverine and has diamond
eyes. The theme of the coin is Wildlife Protection. It has been selected
in the category of Best Silver Coin.
The awards will be given February
7 at a special ceremony at the World Money Fair in Berlin sponsored
by World Coin News, sister publication of Numismatic News.
Winning countries in the other
five categories are Austria, the British Virgin Islands, Denmark, Italy
and Mongolia. Coins in the competition are dated 2007.
