Wooden Canadian homes to be built in Ulaanbaatar

A Canadian company will be
providing residential housing to Mongolian customers.

Pacific Homes in British Columbia,
Canada has been chosen to manufacture wooden homes. These homes will
be built in factories and shipped, as components, to Mongolia where
they will be assembled.

“We’re building everything
from the foundation up using Canadian wood, finishings and other building
products,” said Ray Greene of Pacific Homes, on Vancouver Island.

The project, costing $4 million,
will build 48 townhomes in Ulaanbaatar.

The Mongolian government chose
the Canadian building code system as a standard, as it is internationally
recognized for construction.

The Canadian province of British
Columbia has been working with the Mongolian government for the past
18 months to adapt its building code to Canadian standards and prepare
for wood-frame housing in Mongolia.

This ia an interesting article. The houses are of good quality and affordable price level. However one of our clients is Veerhuis from the Netherlands. Their EPS concept which is approved and used in many countries like Netherlands, France, Italy, England, Latin America, Caribbean and Africa is however much more competitive. The EPS concept creates houses which can be cheaply heated with electricity so don\'t need to be connected to the energy wasting hot water system. Besides that, in contract to the Canadian houses which are totally produced abroad and only assembled in Mongolia, the EPS system materials can be produced for 80% locally, contributing in this way to the reduction of the trade deficit of Mongolia and to more jobs for Mongol citizens.

Hi roydongen, my understanding is that the best \"soft\"wood for house construction comes from sustainable forestry in scandinavian or canadian type climates because the nature of the growing season gives a much more dense tree-ring structure and therefore tougher materials. If this type of forestry can be grown successfully in Mongolia\'s climate then it would certainly make sense to produce the materials locally.

This type of forest will certainly grow very well in Mongolia. If planted today, the first trees will be ready for harvesting in 50 years.

I have designed a forest for the Darkhan region with just this in mind. Some of the trees are from similar growth zones in Western Canada. The forest is called the Forest of the Eternal Flower.

Dear sir, I was wondering if someone could get back to me on dismantling Old Wooden Houses from North America and if the same can be shipped to Cochin, India for reassembly and introducing the concept of Wooden House into the Indian market.
