Mongolian population reaches 2.7 million

Newly released government figures show the population of Mongolia is 2,700,000 as of January 2009.

About 40 percent of the population, or 1,080,000, live in Ulaanbaatar.

A breakdown of the population shows that 29 percent of the population is 0-15 years old, 65 percent--16-59 years old, and six percent are above 60.

Also, the average life expectancy has risen to 66.8 year old, which is 1.5 years longer than in 2004. Approximately 16,000 births are registered each year.

In Ulaanbaatar, 65 percent of the population is under age 35. There are some 200,000 motor vehicles in the city. Additionally, over 760 buses serve the city.

For Mongolia\'s economy this is encouraging news! At least the elder generation doesn\'t have to worry about the retirement burden of their generation for the younger ones, like this is the case in most European countries. Mongolia is spacious enough, has the capacity to feed its population, so lets go for the 3 million!
