Mongolian Airlines now directly on Berlin

Mongolian Airlines

Starting on June 16, 2009, MIAT, the Mongolian Aviation Company is to offer direct weekly Ulaanbaatar-Berlin-Ulaanbaatar flights on Tuesdays.
Flights to Berlin had previously been via Moscow and these are to continue twice a week as in the past, and means the number of weekly MIAT flights to Europe has increased to three. From July 1, a Boeing-737-800 will fly to Irkutsk in Russia until the end of this summer.
Throughout June, eight weekly flights are to be routed Ulaanbaatar-Seoul-Ulaanbaatar – two flights on Fridays and one on the other week days.
MIAT has completed preparations for its first domestic flights on a Boeing 737-800 to Khovd and Moron. Although the Company had previously operated domestic flights, the hourly AN 26 flights have now been discontinued, as well as domestic flights being temporarily stopped since July, 2008. Starting on June 21, domestic flights will be resumed and there will be twice weekly flights to Khovd and, to Moron, four times per week. These measures will provide favorable conditions for tourists and rural citizens to fly in comfort.
Further information is available on MIAT’s free hotline 1881.

I tried to fly once via MIAT and their services were perfect, very kind crew and good aircraft. But, they are the worst in arranging handling services at the airport. I never saw bad services like this before, and this is not enough, officers of the catering department arranged strike two weeks ago and it was impossible to arrange meals for some charter flights. Actually, they are well known around the world by their bad services. Its really very strange what is happening at the gate of Mongolia, its the first thing that foreigners when they come to our country. MIAT is making monopoly on such kind of services in the airport and not allowing any parties to interfere in their business. This situation giving bad reputation to the people who intend to invest in Mongolia and if this will continue, I believe that UB airport will not have any more flights in the near future. I hope this can be solved by the new government.
