NASA grant to study Mongolian herders

NASA, the U.S. space agency, will provide grant money to Mongolia to study how people adapt to climate change on the treeless Mongolian Plateau.

Dan Brown of the University of Michigan, USA said a portion of the $900,000 would be used by various academies of sciences in Mongolia as part of the study.

Specifically, Mongolian researchers will try to understand how herders adjust to changes in the plateaus found in Mongolia’s semiarid grasslands.

In Mongolia, researchers will measure productivity of the grasslands, survey residents and look at the public policy implications of changing conditions.
