President wants no vodka at State ceremonies

President Ts. Elbegdorj has suggested that all state ceremonies dispense with the use of vodka. In a message containing this proposal, he told an open debate in the Civil Hall on “Use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs” that crimes related to alcohol, drugs and substance abuse have been increasing in recent years. Drinking was a major cause of domestic violence and unhappiness, and the threat to personal security could easily translate into a national security concern. His suggestion was meant as a first step to raise public awareness of the issue and to express the Government’s determination to tackle the growing problem.
The debate was organized jointly by the President’s Office and the Administration Office of the National Security Council. The topic had been suggested by the President himself. Representatives of the Central Intelligence Service, the General Police Department, the Customs General Office, the State Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Human Rights National Commission attended the debate.
