Officials: Theaters, museum will not be demolished

Government officials are trying to squelch a rumor that three historic buildings in the capital will be demolished. According to the rumor, the State Academic Drama Theater, the National Historical Museum, and the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet are to be torn down, and Mars Construction is to be granted permission to build on the sites. But officials with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science are denying that, and say the three buildings are actually going to be renovated.

The Drama Theater’s deputy director, N.Suvd, told our correspondent that the Ministry did not officially comment on the rumor when it first began to spread. Theater officials say they would oppose the demolition of the building, because it is historically, culturally, and artistically important, and they are now hopeful that it will be renovated.
