Presidential Election debate is announced

The 2009 Presidential Candidates Ts.Elbegdorj, Democratic Party and N.Enkhbayar, MPRP are going to have debate on 9 pm, 21st of May. The debate will be broadcasted live on Mongolian National Broadcasting.
The Candidates will be debating on many controversy issues such as public share from major mining sites, free higher education, healthy judicial system for over one hour and half. 

No vodka on Election Day

Very few days are left for the 2009 Presidential Election. Regarding this, General Election Committee has submitted official document to G.Munhbayar, City Mayor to ban certain service and commerce temporarily. 
Based on this document City Mayor approved resolution on not organizing any public sports and cultural event and not selling and serving alcoholic beverages on 24th of May, 2009 the Election Day in Ulaanbaatar area. 

Training for Election Observers

According to the Parliamentary Election Law, civil society organizations are not allowed to participate in the process of counting the votes. 
However, according to the Presidential Election Law, NGOs are allowed to observe the process of counting the votes on behalf of voters. Last Saturday, Fair Election civil society network organized training for people who will be observers during the counting.
In this training 60 persons participated and they will be doing observation in 52 Election Committees of eight districts. The training introduced the principles of democratic election; particularly eight main principles to be in line with during the counting process, rules and regulations regarding the organization of counting process and procedures, observation methods, ethical principles of observers.
The preliminary observation result will be introduced on 27th of May on Open Society Forum Hall. 


More on Election

  • As of today, over 2500 people are working in the sub-committees and 70 percent of the voters card has been handed over and from today the voting has started.
  • This time the National Identification cards will be sealed but it does not mean that the index finger would not be marked. In other words, the voter would have two marks, on the finger and on the ID when leaving the Election Committee Building.
  • Starting from last Saturday, internal migration has been stopped temporarily.
  • National Identifications cards will not be granted from 22nd of May.
