English Language Newspaper: UB Post is looking for an English language volunteer.

How do I become a volunteer?
First of all, we thank you for your interest in volunteering at our newspaper. Native English speakers are a great asset in producing the newspaper and representing a wide variety of perspectives in writing. To begin the process, you must submit an application to the UB Post.

How do I apply to volunteer?
Complete our volunteer application form, and then return it together with a copy of your resume/CV, samples of your work and recent passport-sized photograph to our mail address or email to ubpost_at_mongolnews.mn. After when you are successfully qualified, you will be asked to sign in an agreement. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD APPLICATION FORM

Does the UB Post support volunteers with visa invitation letters?
No. We are unable to provide visa invitation letters.

Do I have to be a member of any volunteer service organization?
It’s not essential. We will be happy to consider both members and non-members of volunteer service organizations to volunteer at the UB Post. But lately, we reconsidered our terms of volunteer service. Some Mongolian volunteer service organizations sound they make decisions on behalf of the UB POST publishers. If you are a member of a Mongolian organization, please ask from us if there is a cooperation agreement has been made between the UB POST and your organization. Notice: The UB POST does not have any cooperation agreement on volunteer placement with NEW CHOICE, Mongolian volunteer service organization.

What will I gain from my experience?
Through your volunteer work with the UB Post, you will be making a difference in the newspaper and contributing to the development of Mongolia's English-language media. You will gain knowledge, experience and understanding of the inner workings of the media system while enhancing your professional skills.

List of Volunteer Work activities:

* Research and write articles on news, culture and other issues.
* Participate in press conferences, meetings etc.
* Assist with editing and proofreading.
* Take photographs and work on photo-journalism.


What are the responsibilites of a volunteer?
Responsibilities include assisting the work of our English Editor in editing the content and style of the newspaper to maintain a high degree of objectiveness and clarity; proofreading; and writing independent articles. At present opportunities for writing exist in the areas of arts and culture, entertainment, and sports. Volunteers need to be creative and flexible in their approach.

What other skills are advantageous?
Hands-on knowledge of desktop computer skills will be great asset.Good skills in web site design or programming language would also be an advantage.

What kind of clothes are appropriate?
Smart-casual dress is suggested, though it may be beneficial to bring at least one smart outfit to in case of formal occasions. If the volunteer is to be working during winter or spring, he/she should bring very warm, wind-resistant clothing and footwear. Summers are generally warm.

Does The UB Post provide accommodation and transportation?
No, to date we have no way to provide accommodation and transportation for volunteers. Volunteers can use public transportation like buses, mini buses or taxis. The placement is voluntary.

What kind of resources will you suggest to be brought from home?
Bringing own laptop computer would be an advantage.

What is my schedule of working hours?
The UB Post volunteer's main working hours are as follows:

Monday – 09:00am – 06:00pm
Tuesday – 09:00am – 11:00pm (approx)
Wednesday –09:00am – 08:00pm (approx)
Staff also work on Thursday and Friday, but hours are more flexible. Hours are flexible for volunteers and we are quite happy to arrange them to suit you, within the above schedule. Weekend work is also possible if you would prefer. The newsroom is open on Sundays but not on Saturdays and computers can be used by volunteers (for work related tasks only).

What if I am sick or go on vacation and can't come in?
Volunteers are able to take time off during their time here, for example to go on vacation to the countryside. Please negotiate such time off with the UB Post management beforehand. If you are unable to come to work because of illness, please call to let us know.

Is there a good choice of places to eat around the UB Post?
Yes. There is a good choice of fast food restaurant nearby. There is Berlin Burger fast food restaurant, Mr.Burger, and many other Chinese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, and Mongolian cafes are available within walking distance of our office.
