Hi! I'm a lady journalist traveling alone for the first time to Mongolia. Because of my very tight budget, I plan to go overland, from Beijing to UB via the trans-Mongolian express hard sleeper. From UB I intend to go to Olgii to witness the Kazhaks hunting with golden eagles. I heard that there are public buses going from UB to Olgii - a five day travel over unpaved roads costing USD$35, but schedules are unreliable. Where and how do I find these buses? Are there buses going straight from UB to Olgii, or do I have to transfer buses at certain points? What are the routes? Thanks so much in advance.

I don't think there is a public bus that goes to Olgii. Foreigners usually take airplane to Bayan-Olgii, one of the domestic airline, AeroMongolia or TransUlgii.
