Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/. One of the great cultural heritages created by
the Mongolian people is the national script. During its development
process of more than 1,000 years, the traditional script has been
developed as an independent art with many kinds of forms such as,
calligraphy, artistic writing, and shorthand. Within the framework of
the 800th anniversary celebration of the Great Mongol Empire, the
Linguistics and Civilization Institute named after Choi.Luvsanjav will
conduct the national calligraphy contest for the tenth time in two
stages on May 25 in the Fine Art Gallery. A winner of the competition
will receive cash saward of 200 thousand togrogs. The two runners-up
will be awarded with 160 thousand and 120 thousand togrogs,
respectively. The best calligraphic works will be displayed at an
exhibition. Comments (1) |

The actresses of State Dramatic Theatre perform the play Blood Clot starting on May 19 th. The play is written by the people’s poet B.Lkhagvasuren and produced by Ch.Baatar and tells the dramatic story of the Mongolia's great leader Genghis Khan (Chinggis Khaan) It was originally decided to name the drama Chinggis Khaan, but later was renamed to Blood Clot, referring to the story of Chinggis' birth. When he came out of the womb, it is said he was holding a blood clot in his hand. It was seen as a sign of his strong mind and future leadership. For the role of the baby Chinggis, the play features the youngest actor ever on stage in Mongolia: a two months old baby. Another peculiarity of the performance is that some of the tickets have been printed on leather. People and some historians judge that leather tickets can be preserved as an object of art and audiences can keep it as souvenirs. The leather tickets are priced at between 8000tg and 12000tg. The normal paper tickets ranges from 3000 from 5000tg.
