Ecology book now available in Mongolian PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 January 2006
The fifth edition of Ecology: The Experimental Analysis of
Distribution and Abundance by Charles J. Krebs has been translated
into Mongolian. All necessary permissions to translate the book were
obtained from its publisher and the author, use of copyrighted
materials has been cleared and contract was signed with the publisher.
The Mongolian version turned out to be a book with ca. 760 pages with
color illustrations. It is in the final stages of publication by Admon
Press and will soon be released in a limited quantity (high cost of
color publication of a thick book really sets a limit).

This project was powered and funded by the Hovsgol GEF Project and the
Environmental Reform in Mongolia provided by the Ministry for
Development Cooperation of the Netherlands. Individuals at the Faculty
of Biology of National University of Mongolia and some other
institutions were also involved in editorial and other capacities
(please see a complete list of credits and acknowledgments in the book).

During the Stalinist purges of the 1930's almost every monastery in Mongolia was destroyed. In 1979 an atlas was published in Ulaanbaatar by Mr. Rinchen with an overview of more than 900 religious sites that used to exist in Mongolia. However a lot the information listed seems to be not accurate. A research has been initiated to get a better idea of all the buddhist buildings that once stood in Mongolia.
