Under pressure, Parliament Chairman Nyamdorj resigns PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 15 June 2007

Due to intense political pressure, Ts. Nyamdorj, Chairman of the Mongolian Parliament, resigned on Thursday.

The resignation follows a ruing in June by the country’s constitutional court that Nyamdorj had acted in an unconstitutional manner when he amended several laws passed in 2006.

Nyamdorj is a member of the majority Mongolia's People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), which holds 39 seats in parliament. The opposition Democratic Party, which holds 22 seats, said it would boycott Parliament until Nyamdorj resigned.

The 76-seat parliament, formally called The Mongolian Great Hural, is the supreme source of power in the country.
