Erdenet businessman to seek machinery during Taiwan visit PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 June 2007

A Mongolian business group will visit Taiwan later this week to explore purchasing equipment to assist in the industrialization of Erdenet.

Following a decision by the Mongolian government to turn Erdenet into a high-tech industrial park, $15 million has been allocated to create this Mongolian “Silicon Valley.’ Copper mining in Erdenet is anticipated to end within the next 20 years. Preparing for that, Erdenet is seeking to create a solid industrial base.

Representatives of 16 Erdenet-based companies will travel to Taiwan for talks with machinery suppliers.

The Mongolian businessman will focus on purchasing a variety of equipment for processing jewelry, stones, wood, leather shoes and ceramic tiles.

 1 Copper to Tourism

There are several large copper mines in the US that have switched from mining to tourism. I would recommend that they also review Bisbee, Arizona to see what they are doing. Not as lucrative as high tech, but longer term and sustainable. It can be used to complement the high tech.
