Seven Hungarian researchers arrived in
Altai on Thursday after crossing the Gobi Desert on horseback. The Szilasfood-Lucullus Gobi Expedition
began the 1,000 kilometer trek one month ago from the Mongolian city
of Dalanzagdad (population 17,000). Upon reaching Altai, the
researchers celebrated the completion of their journey by cooking a
Hungarian meal of chicken stew with paprika for town officials. Asia’s largest desert, the Gobi,
straddles the Chinese and Mongolian border. The Hungarians performed
a variety of medical, telecommunications and anthropological research
during their trek. The final stop on their trip will be
Ulaanbaatar, where they will present gifts from the Hungarian
National Museum to the National Museum of Mongolian History.
