Detailed exploration to begin at Erdenetsogt; 500 million tons of coal expected to be extracted PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 13 July 2007
Gulfside Minerals Ltd. of Canada is preparing a detailed site exploration at Erdenetsogt which could eventually yield 550 million tons of coal. The Gobi Desert site is 430 kilometers southwest of Ulaanbaatar. Gulfside Minerals has hired Norwest Corporation of Salt Lake City, Utah to evaluate the site and provide an up-to-date projection of the coal deposits. In a written statement, Gulfside Minerals noted, “A qualified person has not done sufficient work to classify any of the historical estimates as current mineral resources, and the estimates should not be relied on.”Past explorations have determined that coal seams at Erdenetsogt are 41.5 meters to 94.6 meters thick.
Once Norwest provides detailed projections, a decision will be made about developing a program to extract coal from the site.

Mongolia Websites

The goal of the Mongolian River Resources website is to provide information on a wide spectrum of topics related to natural resource use and the environment in Mongolia. This includes issues within Mongolia, and relevant international information and experiences. The need for information pertinent to the environment, ecology, and resource use, available to a broad audience with diverse interests and needs, was identified during the initial year of The Asia Foundation’s Securing Our Future program.
