A total solar eclipse will
come to a small area of Mongolia on August 1, 2008.
The eclipse will also draw
an unknown numbers of tourists, journalists, scientists, as well as
religious dignitaries to Mongolia.
Possibly, the ideal location
for viewing the eclipse will be around Lake Har Us, 30 km from the town
of Hovd.
Lake Har Us is one of Mongolia’s
largest lakes, covering 1,153 square kilometers.
The eclipse will last up to
two minutes and nine seconds. Also, the observers’ ability to actually
watch the eclipse occur will be contingent upon the weather.
Besides Mongolia, the eclipse
can be seen in Canada, Russia and China. The next chance to see this
eclipse will occur in 2024.
