Canadian mine conglomerates
Cameco Corp. and Centerra Gold have watched their stock values slip following
news that they will extract less gold than expected in Mongolia and
Kyrgyzstan in 2007.
Indeed, company officials have
said they now anticipate mining one-third less gold than previously
announced. Centerra had earlier said they expected to extract up to
720,000 ounces of gold from the two mines in 2007.
However, up-to-date estimates
have been reduced to mining a maximum of 560,000 ounces of gold this
year.
Centerra operates the Boroo
mine in Mongolia and Kumtor site in Kyrgyzstan.
Company officials explain the
cause of the shortfall is due to additional work to extend mine areas
which requires the removal of more waste than previously expected.
