Friday, 03 February 2006
The Chief of State Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, Mr. Ch.Naranbaatar has met the skiers to take part in 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and wished them to make a new national record for Mongolia. From Mongolia Kh.Khash-Erdene (male) and E.Ochirsuren (female) and a their trainer L.Dorj, the Secretary General of Mongolian Association of Skiers are to participate in this "Torino-2006" Winter Olympic Games. The athletes will head Torino on Saturday February 4, 2006

Mongolia made its Olympic Winter Games debut in 1964 in Innsbruck, but has until today never won a medal. At this first Olympic Games in Innsbruck, a group of Mongolian cross-country skiers unexpectedly showed up at the competition, unaware of any application procedure, but were nevertheless allowed to compete.

Mongolian athletes have participated in 9 editions of the Summer Olympic Games and have won 14 medals, including 5 silver and 9 bronze medals. In general, Mongolia , a country with a rather small population, has gained 743 gold, 770 silver and 1025 bronze medals in many international competitions, 70 percent of which are gained by wrestlers.
