Azerbaijani politician urges area countries join to form Turkic-speaking union PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007
ImageAn Azerbaijani politician is urging Mongolia, along with other area countries, to join together in the creation of a Turkic-speaking union, similar to the European Union.

“ Europe can establish its own union, its own non-visa zone, but why can’t the Turkic speaking countries?” Azerbaijani independent politician, Vefa Guluzadeh, asked while commenting on Turkey’s recent decision to drop certain visa restrictions among Asian tourists.

Guluzadeh made his comments during an interview with the Trend News Agency of Azerbaijan.

The Turkic speaking countries include Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Guluzadeh speculated that the move by Turkey to drop visa restrictions will allow them to become a leading player in regional politics.

“It is obvious that Turkey will not be admitted into the EU. That was a game. Turkey understands that very well. Therefore, for Turkey to establish a Turkic-speaking union in Central Asia and Caucasus, I feel this may be the correct way and it should be taken,” Guluzadeh noted.
