Nine countries, represented
by over 1,000 soldiers, began multinational military exercises in Mongolia
on Wednesday.
Opening ceremonies for Khaan
Quest 2007 were presided over by Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar
some 65 kilometers east of Ulaanbaatur.
Countries participating include,
among others, Bangladesh, Mongolia, South Korea and the United States.
The military exercise is co-hosted
by Mongolia and the U.S., and reviews multinational command post techniques
and field exercises.
Specifically, soldiers teach
each other military tactics used during peacekeeping operations sponsored
by the United Nations.
During his speech, President
Enkhbayar said Khaan Quest 2007 would enhance the peacekeeping skills
of Mongolian soldiers and contribute to overall regional peace efforts.
