New rail line may transport Mongolian coal to China PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 August 2007
ImageChina Shenhua Energy announced Tuesday that it may build a rail line to transport coal from Mongolia, if it is able to negotiate a new mining contract with Ulaanbaatur.

"Once we win the coal project in Mongolia, we will consider building a rail link to transport the fuel here," Huang Qing, spokesman for Shenhua, told Bloomberg News.

Since 80 percent of China’s electricity is generated from burning coal, it is seeking additional sources of coal in Mongolia as well as Indonesia, Australia, and Vietnam.

Shenhua Energy hopes to triple its electricity output in the second half of 2007.
