ImageU.S. Marine officials have confirmed that over 200 U.S. Marines are in Mongolia participating in Exercise Khaan Quest.

The Marines will be in Mongolia until August 20 as they train with 800 troops from 19 mostly Asian nations.

Begun in 2003, Exercise Khaan Quest is jointly hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces and the U.S. Pacific Command.

Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar spoke at the opening ceremonies on August 1.

Forces from the participating countries finished a command post exercise Saturday. This training allowed about 120 officers from different countries to organize a command operations center.

A second part of the exercise involves conducting United Nations Peace Support Operations techniques, tactics and procedures. Participants include South Korea, Bangladesh, Tonga, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Cambodia.

Both China and Russia attended as observers.
