Mongolia and China pledge to work together to battle desert sandstorms
Monday, 20 August 2007
China and Mongolia have agreed
to expand their cooperation in fighting the effects sandstorms pose
to each country.
Following meetings in Ulaanbaatur
last week between China's Meteorological Bureau and Mongolia's National
Agency of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment Monitoring, both countries
agreed to work together on this environmental problem.
Minutes from the meeting indicate
the two countries intend to build three weather monitoring stations
in Mongolia to monitor sandstorms and share data collected at these
stations.
Evidence indicates that sandstorms
originating in Mongolia’s southern deserts are a major source of disruption
to China each year.
