Mongolia to receive help from S. Korea in upgrading mail service PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 09 October 2007
ImageMongolia and Kazakhstan are to receive assistance in modernizing their postal systems from the South Korean Post Offices.

Meeting in Ulaanbaatur on Monday, the heads of the three countries’ postal systems inaugurated the establishment of a cooperation committee between their countries.

South Korea will assist Mongolia by introducing advanced mail-handling systems tied into an advanced logistics system.

South Korea hopes to sell its postal know-how and computer software to developing countries as they seek to bring their postal services up to the standards of other Eastern countries. In addition, while email has reduced the number of letters sent by post, postal services worldwide are seeing a marked increase in parcel post deliveries.

``The establishment of the three-nation partnership committee will be a stepping stone for Korean IT firms to advance into the Central Asia and Caspian nations,'' Jung Kyung-won, president of Korea Post said. ``By initiating an annual meeting with Japan and China in 2000 and by forging the Central Asian partnership deal this time, South Korea is emerging as Asia's hub nation in the postal services.''
