Oglethorpe University Museum of Art - Cultural Event Series - Spring 2006
The year 2006 marks the 800th anniversary of Genghis Khan’s founding of
the Mongolian state. To commemorate the historic event, Oglethorpe
University Museum of Art together with the Institute for International
and Comparative Studies at Emory University and the Georgia East Asian
Research Schools Consortium (GEARS), is sponsoring a series of cultural
events celebrating and examining Mongol history, culture and politics.
Additional cultural events at Oglethorpe University Museum of Art are
included.
Event Information
Unless otherwise noted, events will be presented in the Skylight Gallery
of Oglethorpe University Museum of Art; admission is $5 per person or
free to members of Oglethorpe University Museum of Art, children under
12 and the Oglethorpe community with ID.
* Khan Bogd Ensemble:
A Concert of Traditional Mongol Music and Dance

Mongolian throat singing, Tsam dancer and mask maker and horsehair
fiddle player. Co-sponsored by East Asian Studies, Oglethorpe University

Opening Ceremonies
Lama-Yeshe Dorje
The opening ceremonies for the *Portals of Shangri-La: Masterpieces from
Buddhist Mongolia* exhibit will take place on February 12, 2006 at
4:00pm in Oglethorpe University's Lupton Auditorium.

A reception and viewing of the exhibition at the Museum will follow.

*Tibet and Mongolia: Buddhist Art of the Himalayas
Tuesday, February 14, 7:30 p.m.
Lecture by Glenn H. Mullin, noted Tibetan scholar, author of numerous
books and curator of Portals to Shangri-La: Masterpieces from Buddhist
Mongolia.
