Mongolian demonstrators joined
thousands worldwide on Wednesday to protest the brutal crackdown of
pro-democracy demonstrators in Burma.
With demonstrations led by
Burmese Monks, the ruling junta in Burma has cracked down on all dissent.
Up to ten deaths have been reported so far.
Demonstrations against the
regime began when Buddhist Monks took to the streets to protest rising
fuel prices in August. As crowds on the streets quickly joined the monks,
the protest became an act of defiance against the country’s rulers.
When the demonstrators ignored orders to disband, police reportedly
fired into crowds.
Burma’s state media has reported
ten deaths and 2,100 people arrested. However, dissident groups put
the death toll at 200, with 6,000 arrests.
Thousand of marchers are on
the streets of London today to show their support for the Burmese protestors.
"We are expecting demonstrations
in 25 countries. There have never been such a number of events around
the world for Burma. This will dwarf any previous demonstrations in
the UK," said Mark Farmaner, acting director of the Burma Campaign
told The Independent.
