Malaysian defendants were served late last week with papers in a civil suit demanding nearly $30 million in the death of Mongolian Altantuya Setev.

The suit has been filed on behalf of the family of Altantuya Setev.

The suit holds responsible for the death of the Mongolian woman Malaysian Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda and the government of Malaysia.

The civil suit comes while a criminal court case is still being heard.

In the civil suit, it is alleged that security officers Azilah, 31, and Sirul Azhar, 36, had murdered Altantuya between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am on Oct 20 last year.

Following an alleged affair with the politically connected Razak, a married man, Altantuya apparently went to his home and demanded to see him. Police had to remove the young woman when she created a disturbance in front of the house.

Shortly afterwards, Altantuya was found dead. It was determined she had been shot and explosives had been used to try to destroy her body.

In the suit, Azilah and Sirul, are accused of acting as agents for the government and hence, the government of Malaysia was named as being also liable for the death of the Mongolian woman.
