Tuesday, 23 October 2007
ImageMongolia lost 4 to 1 to North Korea Sunday in the first round of the World Cup qualifiers.

Playing in Ulaanbaatur, North Korea’s Pak Chol-min put the Koreans ahead at 14 minutes. This followed with Jong Chol-min scoring twice for North Korea within eight minutes.

Mongolia’s Odkhuu Selenge scored his team’s only goal three minutes into stoppage time.

China, the expected favorite, saw their World Cup qualifying chances soar as they easily routed Myanmar 7 to 0.

There are 43 competing Asian countries hoping to fill the four and a half places reserved at the finals in South Africa.

Following five rounds of qualifying matches, the top four Asian teams will advance, with the fifth-placed country playing off with the winner of Oceania qualifying.
