Mongolia signs pact to allow boarding of ships with suspect cargos |

 Though Mongolia is landlocked,
it has 62 ships registered worldwide under its flag. Due to that fact,
the U.S. and Mongolia signed an agreement Tuesday to allow Mongolian
ships to be boarded if they are suspected of carrying weapons of mass
destruction.
The U.S. ship-boarding pact
is meant to keep an eye on rogue nations, such as North Korea, which
might try to conceal a lethal cargo under the flag of another country.
Mongolia is the eighth country
which has signed the pact with the United States.
Five of the top ten “flag
of convenience” countries, including Panama, Liberia, Malta, Cyprus
and the Marshall Islands have also signed the ship-boarding pact. These
countries account for nearly 10,000 registered ships worldwide.
