Friday, 26 October 2007
ImageIt has been announced that former Mongolian Prime Minister, Puntsagiin Jasrai, died on October 25 during the MPRP Party Congress in Beijing.

Jasrai, 74, served as Prime Minister from 1992 to 1966. His was a particularly difficult time in Mongolia following the cut off of aid from the former Soviet Union.

Mongolian political leaders from all major parties credited Jasrai with restoring order to the economy. He also was recognized for beginning the privatization process in Mongolia, encouraging foreign investment and seeking to improve relations with the West.

Though in failing health, Jasrai insisted on attending the MPRP Party Congress. During a public funeral at the Altan-Ulgii cemetery, his tombstone was unveiled with the inscription, "Justice lives forever."
