 Eco-friendly purchases during
the mammoth Christmas retail season in the West has become an important
sector in consumer holiday spending. The good news for Mongolia is that
eco-friendly consumers are very interested in Mongolian cashmere.
The U.S.-based Stewart + Brown,
with stores in the U.S., Europe and Japan, is the exclusive distributor
of cashmere clothing manufactured only using sheep’s wool purchased
from Mongolian nomads.
In company literature, Stewart
+ Brown explains their focus on Mongolian cashmere. “By keeping all
aspects of our cashmere production exclusively in Mongolia we provide
nomadic Mongolian herders with the resources necessary to sustain their
centuries old heritage and ultimately their survival.”
U.S. media has featured this
Mongolian cashmere in numerous print and television reports about purchasing
eco-friendly holiday gifts this season.
Typical of such reports include
an explanation of new buying trends by Marisa Belger
on the American TODAYshow.com
website. “It’s all about choices. From the detergent I use in my
dishwasher and washing machine, to the personal care products found
in my bathroom, to the clothes, sheets and towels that keep me dry and
warm, I always try (“try” is the operative word when moving towards
a more eco-friendly life) to purchase items that are manufactured in
a way that respects both the earth and my body.”
And as with others in the Western
media, Belger recommends Mongolian cashmere as a responsible and especially
elegant present to purchase during this holiday season.
