News media in Japan are reporting
that Mongolia will host its first-ever tournament of sumo wrestlers
from The Japan Sumo Association next August.
Mongolians have become increasingly
interested in the sport following the success of two current grand champions,
Asashoryu and Hakuho, who are from Mongolia.
"It would be great to
step into the raised ring in my home country. I hope for the success
of the tour," Asashoryu told the Kyodo News Agency.
While this would be the first
time sumo exhibitions are held in Mongolia, Japanese sumos have visited
countries such as the U.S. and Israel.
