Mongolia to benefit from $35 billion Chinese power grid program PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 26 February 2008
ImageMongolia will receive options to purchase Chinese energy as Beijing begins plans to spend $35 billion to upgrade its electrical power grid.

Officially, China plans on building long-distance, high-capacity transmission lines to connect its power producing regions with populated areas on its east coast, as well as more rural areas such as Xinjiang, Qinghai and Tibet.

However, Mongolia will also be hooked into China’s new power grid if it chooses to purchase additional electricity from China.

Chinese officials have also said this winter’s severe weather has resulted in extensive damage to the country’s power grid. It is estimated that as much as $5.5 billion would be needed to repair winter-related damage to power lines, generators and other power infrastructure.
