Mongolian sumos win first day’s matches in Osaka tournament PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 March 2008
ImageMongolia’s grand champion sumo wrestlers were both victorious in the first day of Japan’s Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.

Mongolian Hakuho, who hopes to win his fourth straight Emperor's Cup, won the final bout in Osaka when he threw Takekaze to the ground.

Mongolia’s other grand champion, Asashoryu, who has won 21 Emperor’s Cups, was victorious over sumo wrestler Komusubi Kisenosato. Asashoryu defeated Kisenosato using arm thrusts which forced Kisenosato from the ring.

Recently, Hakuho defeated Asashoryu in the New Year tourney and the two Mongolians are expected to be competing down to the tournament’s fifteenth, and final, day.

During the Stalinist purges of the 1930's almost every monastery in Mongolia was destroyed. In 1979 an atlas was published in Ulaanbaatar by Mr. Rinchen with an overview of more than 900 religious sites that used to exist in Mongolia. However a lot the information listed seems to be not accurate. A research has been initiated to get a better idea of all the buddhist buildings that once stood in Mongolia.
